Is AVON really a great way to make money?



As I was doing some surfing for personal curiosity, I was so surprised at the amount of bad info that was out there about being an AVON representative. Everything from "AVON reps only make $25 per month" to "AVON is competing with it's own representatives for online sales". The fact of the matter is that it simply IS NOT TRUE! I have been an AVON representative for 23 years and I would like to set the records straight.

*Testimony of an AVON Lady

I became an AVON representative when my third baby came along and I no longer wanted to be a working mom. I did not want someone else raising my children and I went in search of something to do from home and still earn an income. My Mom saw an ad in the local paper and suggested I look into selling AVON. I did and the next day the District Sales Manager came to my house to tell me about the opportunity and brought with her my appointment kit. Back then it was $25 to get started and you received a leather tote bag, a couple of full size products and 20 brochures. I looked at the lady sitting across from me at the kitchen table and said, " I am going to need more brochures than this!" She looked at me funny as I told her  I could not possibly get the kind of sales that I needed with 20 brochures. She got me the additional brochures and I began my AVON journey.

I had just come off maternity leave and put in my resignation. I planed to leave my chosen career and become an AVON Lady. I began by asking all of my coworkers and business associates if they would like to see an AVON brochure, as I would be changing directions in my life. I remember that first order was $150.00. I continued to share brochures with everyone and by the end of my first full year with AVON I had achieved not only Presidents Club,($10,000 in sales) but also Honor Society ($20,000 in sales) and with those titles, I was named the "Top New Performer" for that year. I did this all with baby in tow and Grandma too. All of this to say that it is very possible to make a good income with AVON, right from the start. Like anything worth having, you have to work at it.

I continued successfully building my sales for about 5 years until the idea of "Leadership" came to my attention. Leadership had been lost in our district and nobody knew anything about it. The idea is that in addition to personal sales, you could find and help others to become successful AVON representatives also. I knew immediately that this was for me. I had high expectations for my AVON business and I knew that I personally could only sell so many lipsticks.As you might guess, I embraced the idea and ran with it and eventually became the first Executive Unit Leader ever in our district. I love working with new representatives. They may be young and inexperienced, may be shy and unsure and I get to mentor them and watch them blossom into strong, vibrant business people.

All of this to say..."Do you think I would have done this for the past 23 years if all I was making was $25 per month....I don't think so!"

*Let's look at specifics.

*Avon is designed to be customized to each representative's needs. 

**Personal Shopper: You always know where the AVON Lady lives, because you are her. You buy your personal use products from your own AVON Store at your representative discount. No sales quotas. As long as you place an order once every 6 campaigns (3 months) you never lose your representative statice. Instead of paying Department store prices for your cosmetics, you buy items that you use at your discounted price and save from 20%-50%.

**Share brochures to family and friends and make enough to get your personal product for FREE: You get more bang for your buck! You already come in contact with family and friends. While you are there, talk with them about AVON. Give them a brochure, or send them to your online store to shop for their cosmetics, shampoo, shower gel, fragrance and much more. Instead of buying from a large department store, they buy from a friend. They get a great product and because you are making a commission on what they buy, you can get your product for FREE. Gotta Love that.

**Build a lucrative Sales Business: Talk to everyone you come in contact with. Tell them about AVON. Give them a brochure or send them to your online store. Ask your friends for referrals. Place an order once every 2 weeks. Get your products at a discount and make a lucrative commission on the products that you sell.

**Build a team and earn per campaign bonuses: Continue to personally sell products and also invite others to do the same. Help them learn how to build their business. Have fun working together and earn a percentage of what your total team sales are. AVON rewards you for building a team.

**Become a Professional Fundraiser
:Do you have an organization that need to raise money for it's cause? Become a professional Fundraiser and help them put AVON to work for them. Provide brochures for their membership and show them how to sell the product and earn a percentage for their organization. Avon also has online fundraising, so it can be a nation wide fundraiser...Great for the organization!! AND the product is shipped directly to the customer.

***Work Part-Time or Full Time:
You decide. The beauty of AVON is that you can work it around what ever your schedule is. You are the BOSS and YOU decide. Are you a stay at home mom and want a little extra income or to see people above 3 foot tall? Are you a student and need to earn money in a way that works around your school schedule? Do you need money to buy a car? There are many reasons to be an AVON Representative and you can structure it to work around your life ....not make your life work around your work schedule.
