365 Days...
As the year draws to an end, it is only natural to reflect on successes and perceived failures.
When you
look back at 2019…do you feel regret at missed opportunities and bad choices,
or do you feel great satisfaction at how your life played out over the past 365
days?
Do you have
regrets in life? Have your dreams remained in the dark recesses of your heart,
in a place that only you can see the faint glow of desire, and when that tug
pulls on your heart, do you suppress it and hide it until it is barely there?
Or, do you listen to that heart tug and give it voice, allowing it to grow and
manifest into something beautiful, real and meaningful?
Mark Twain
said,
“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you
didn’t do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from
the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.
Discover.”
In 2012 a
nurse decided to document the top regrets that her patients had in their final
weeks of life. The top 3 were:
* I wish I
had taken better care of myself.
* I wish I
had told her/him, “I love you”.
* I wish I
had cared less about what others think.
How often
does fear stop you from doing the thing you love? What would your life look
like if you were to live with no fear!
Would you:
*Talk with
more people?
*Say, “I
love you” more?
*Try new and
adventurous things?
*Learn
something new?
*Start a new
business? …
What is your
inner “Tug” telling you to do? So often our dreams stay locked inside. Will you
silence it or will you listen? Your life is YOUR life! It is short. You can not
escape death, but you can beat death in life. Live your life to the fullest. Know
your life. Look for the light. You are marvelous. I know it is cliché, but,
Today IS the first day of the rest of your life…look for the
light. It is always there, no matter how small. Focus on the light. Let it grow
and when the time is right, there is a way out. Even if it is only a change of
attitude that allows us to see the light. Choose a fearless life.
Even King
Solomon, Son of David speaks in Ecclesiastes of the futility of life. That
everything has been done before and that there was futility in wisdom and in
pleasure and possessions and labor. Finally, he realizes that there is a time
for everything.
There is an
appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under
heaven—
-A time to
give birth, and a time to die;
-A time to
plant, and a time to uproot what is planted.
-A time to
kill, and a time to heal.
-A time to
tear down, and a time to build up.
-A time to
weep, and a time to laugh;
-A time to
mourn, and a time to dance.
-A time to
throw stones, and a time to gather stones;
-A time to
embrace, and a time to shun embracing.
-A time to
search, and a time to give up as lost;
-A time to
keep, and a time to throw away.
-A time to
tear apart, and a time to sew together;
-A time to be
silent, and a time to speak.
-A time to
love, and a time to hate;
-A time for
war, and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes
3:1-8
This would
suggest that there is a progression and that no matter the situation…this to
shall pass. Take heart and know that we each have the choice of how we perceive
life and it’s events and yes, we can change the course of our lives.
As for me,
the year 2020 holds 365 new days of opportunity and hope.
What about
you?
